XTRUST-6G Participates in the 1st Dialogue Day with the Research Community

Athens, Greece

October 29, 2025

The XTRUST-6G project had the honour of participating in the 1st Dialogue Day with the Research Community — an online workshop organized by the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA) on October 1st, 2025.

The event brought together more than 200 participants from the research community, IT sector, legal profession, and data protection officers. Its purpose was to foster open dialogue, exchange knowledge, and strengthen collaboration between the HDPA and researchers working in the area of personal data protection.

During his speech, Dr. Vasilis Zorkadis, General Director of the HDPA, highlighted the Authority’s long-term commitment to supporting research and innovation in data protection. He noted that, “primarily through the adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation, the Authority has sought to systematically contribute to the research and development of educational materials and tools for data protection.”

Dr. Zorkadis also referred to the Authority’s four recent research initiativesbyDesign, byDefault, byRisk, and XTRUST-6G — emphasizing that, “the Authority actively pursues collaboration with scientific institutions, supports research efforts, and strives to contribute directly to the research community.”

The XTRUST-6G project is proud to be part of this collaborative ecosystem, which bridges cutting-edge 6G research with data protection principles. Our work focuses on building trustworthy, privacy-aware mechanisms for future networked environments — a mission that aligns closely with the HDPA’s goals for transparency, accountability, and privacy-by-design.

The workshop featured several insightful sessions, including a keynote lecture by Professor Jaap-Henk Hoepman (Radboud University Nijmegen / Karlstad University), titled “Privacy Friendly Digital Wallets? The devil is in the details (unfortunately)”, which explored the privacy implications of the upcoming EU Digital Identity Wallet.

The event concluded with a round of discussion and reflections on the importance of continued dialogue between regulators and researchers — an approach that XTRUST-6G fully supports and promotes through its ongoing activities.
