XTRUST-6G Research Presented at IEEE ICC 2026
XTRUST-6G was represented at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE ICC 2026), held from 24–28 May 2026, where project partner IQUADRAT presented research related to energy-efficient resource management in O-RAN environments.
IEEE ICC is one of the flagship conferences of the IEEE Communications Society, bringing together researchers, industry experts and technology professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge on the latest advances in communications and networking. The 2026 edition was organised under the theme “Connected World for a Sustainable Future”, providing a highly relevant setting for presenting XTRUST-6G research at the intersection of next-generation networks, intelligent resource management and sustainability.
During the conference, IQUADRAT presented the XTRUST-6G solution and shared ongoing research on “Energy-Efficient Resource Management via Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning in O-RAN.” The work explores the use of hierarchical reinforcement learning (RL) to support more efficient resource management within O-RAN environments.
The approximately 30-minute presentation generated active interaction with participants, who showed particular interest in the technical challenges addressed by the research. Discussions focused especially on coordination between upper and lower network layers and on the latency of low-level reinforcement learning models when operating with O-RAN devices.
These challenges are closely connected to the work being carried out within XTRUST-6G Task 3.5, making the feedback and discussions particularly valuable for the project. The questions raised by participants also demonstrated strong interest within the research community in the approaches being investigated by XTRUST-6G.
Participation in IEEE ICC 2026 provided an important opportunity to disseminate XTRUST-6G technical developments to an international audience from both academia and industry, exchange knowledge with experts in communications and networking, and increase the visibility of the project’s research on intelligent and energy-efficient solutions for future 6G networks.
